Use the XRT_TEMPLATE z3d file that comes with Rene's tut as a scale reference. Open the mod your workin on and merge it with the above.

cant even get the whole body to move and scale

Press "Select all" button under the objects list (or press shift + a), after which use the SEL button (between EXT and MUL) or press the space as to be able to modify all objects simultaneously. Then move, scale, rotate etc.
Btw, there is  a zmod 1.x manual that you may check for further questions referring to the program itself.
